P52L: Week 2 Floral is the new Polka dots!

And I remember I started the year with floral skirt and pokpok shoes.

This photo was taken January 2. I had a date on January 1 and I got home really late. Yes this is after my date. =))

So they say you should wear polka dots on the first day of the year to attract prosperity. I don’t have polka dots. So I wore floral instead.

Tank tops are always fail-safe. When in doubt, wear black. ) I got this one from Kamiseta for less than Php500. The shoulder strap is made of lace and it actually follows the Spring 2011 fashion trend I am trying to pose.

The floral skirt’s from Zara. I bought it on 50% sale, and if I remember it right this is only around Php1250. It is very feminine, flexible, cheerful and young. I was choosing between blue and this color. I think blue is also nice but I prefer a lighter shade if I’m going floral.

I bought the heels from SM Department Store last December 2010, it’s Figliarina and it only cost me Php750, also on 50% sale. I was so intent to buy pok pok shoes of this type and really glad found one for less than a thousand.

P52L: Week 1 Stripes!

Who said you can’t wear stripes with another stripes? I say, I beg your pardon?

I was in Baguio last January for a weekend getaway. I did nothing much but bum around, eat strawberries and vanilla ice cream, have coffee every night and try out restaurants like Cafe by the Ruins and Forest House which both were love-at-first-taste for me. It was really cold that time, temperature was down at around 15-17 and I forgot to bring pants!! All my stuff were shorts and skirt!

And so on the first night after I rummaged through ukay ukays in Baguio (yes I think a trip to Baguio is not complete without bringing home good finds from the ukay ukay), I found a nice pair of long socks being sold down the street of Session Road, for only Php30. And though I am not fond of colorful socks, I bought it anyway because I thought it was cute. =))

And so I wore it immediately and then I had dinner at Cafe by the Ruins.

Stripes! Stripes! Stripes!

Orange top I bought from bazaar three or four years ago (I think less than Php300). Yes, I take care of my clothes pretty well. The black jacket I bought from Cotton On in Hong Kong a year ago (HKD50). White shorts with pale blue stripes (which you can’t see in this picture) is from bazaar also (less than Php150). And the pair of doll shoes/sneakers was just given to me by a friend. The striped shawl was also a gift.

I Brave a Pixie Cut

I have been obsessing to get a pixie cut since I saw Emma Watson sport one. Since then, I would drool over pretty pictures of celebrities who carry a pixie cut like Katie Holmes, Elisha Cuthbert, Natalie Portman and Halle Berry. I wanted something like that but I chicken out every time I’m about to have the cut.

I first tried to get a pixie cut last November when I cut my hair super short. It wasn’t successful, I think. T’was just a short haircut. And then just three months later, I had another attempt for a pixie but I ended up having a nice bob that slants from back to front instead.

But yesterday, I went to the salon and made sure I will walk out of there happy with the haircut that I have been wanting so long. Usually I would go to Basement Salon in Shangri La for any of my hair needs (cut, color, treatment), but this time I went to Menage Salon in Gateway because (1) It’s nearer to my place and (2) Hair services cost less. My stylist in Basement would cost me Php1000 while the stylist I got in Menage was only Php400.

I asked K to take pictures for me. This is before the haircut. My hair grows faster than the usual hair growth, I don’t know why. In just four months, my hair grew about 5 to 5.5 inches. Usual hair growth is about 3/4 to an inch per month.

I had some pictures I got from the internet with me when I went to the salon. I showed it to the stylist and asked if I can pull off any of the styles. My ultimate inspiration really was Keri Hilson’s cut. I actually love everything about Keri, she’s like the hottest for me.

So after an hour, here’s what my hair looked like:

Totally hot. Pixie cut with longer sideburns so it would still look feminine. I was really scared I’d look like a boy so I asked to stylist to be really careful not to make it too short. I am really happy that it ended up looking like this.

If you are also thinking of getting a pixie cut, I suggest that you do proper research and long preparation. Make sure also that you’re really decided. I know. Hair grows back but if you’re that type who’s been used to wearing long hair for ages, it would take you some time to grow it back if ever you find your new cut uncomfortable.

2010. The year that was.

I know we’re already halfway thru to 2011 but it isn’t late to say goodbye to 2010, is it? Well. Whatever, I would still do this. Hahaha

Looking back, 2010 felt longer than a usual year would feel like. For most people, it might be that this year just passed swiftly. But not for me. This is the year of waiting, and being patient about it. It taught me things about respect, patience, relationship, forgiveness, self-worth, finances and having fun while working hard. Also this year I was able to give “chasing the dreams” a try. It wasn’t full blown but it was a good one, at least a start.

Like 2009, this year is also eventful — I went to places and met a lot of wonderful people along the way. I started being travel-savvy in 2009, influenced by someone I loved dearly. We went to a lot of places in 2009, and we still did this past 2010 but this year was really for me in terms of travel. I went to places he haven’t been to.

Also, later part of this year was painful for me. There were learnings I wouldn’t be able to learn any other way. There were mistakes made and grudges held on to. I broke my heart and I broke it again. And though I was jaded during the late part of the year, I’m still here moving on with my life.

And yes, this year I enjoyed making love to the camera. I have several pretty shots taken by my blogger friends who are into photography. I might make a good modeling career soon. Haha.

So here’s the gist of my 2010:

January – This is A and I’s first international trip. We celebrated our first anniversary touring Hong Kong and Macau. We almost got lost in Macau and we could have boarded the train to Shenzhen if we didn’t notice there are no more English signs anywhere.

February – This is my first trip with A and his family. His older sister who just came home from Canada treated us to a 4D3N getaway in Boracay. We stayed at Boracay Regency and did a lot of fun stuff together. It was also my first time in Boracay then, Oh I so love the beach!!

March – I wasn’t able to visit any place this month because I was pretty busy with all the transition happening as I transfer from one team to another.

April – is the month of longing. A was sent to Germany and France for a company training. He was out for a month and it’s the longest we’ve been apart from each other. I can swear I almost drove myself nuts crying almost every night because I was missing him badly. I know that sounds tremendously OA.

And while A’s away, I used my free time to take care of my application for my master’s degree.

Also, this is the month I first tried to be spontaneous with regards to traveling. I joined Benj’s group during holy week in Sagada. We spent 3days up there and the experience’s priceless. I really wanna go back there. Who wants to join me?

May – I was really lucky to be picked as one of the DFAT 2010 participants. Not only that we experienced great tasting dishes and delicacies from Davao, we also had a lot of fun with zorbing and zipline adventures.

June – A and I, together with two of my closest college friends and their boyfriends, went to paradise that is the Caramoan Islands. We also spent a day in CWC in Naga. Yes. I tried wake boarding. And no, it’s not my thing. : ))

August – birthday treat from A was an overnight stay at Bellarocca Island Resort. Well, I think that’s one of the pricey-est getaway we had.

September – Mica, Sarah and I went to GenSan, it was like a reunion because the three of us were also together in Davao for DFAT 2010. Avel and Orman hosted us.

October – This is the month I almost fell apart. Relationships were broken, spirits wounded. I still don’t know how I was able to survive it. But I’m glad I did.

November – The West Pangasinan adventure with new blogger friends! We went to Alaminos and Bolinao. I have been wanting to visit Bolinao, so when Mica invited me to join the trip she was organizing, there wasn’t any doubt when I said yes. Fun fun fun trip! And I will forever treasure the good friends I found.

And also during the later part of this month, I had yet another CDO-Camiguin trip, this time with college friends.

December – I spent most of the month recuperating from all of the unfortunate events that happened to me and to my relationship with A. We also spent the last days of the year planning for our 2011 trips, and promising each other to be better partners to each other.

M2M – many to mention LOL

Marit and Marion.

This Norwegian duo was like the Taylor Swift during my teenage years. Like this if, once in your gradeschool/highschool life, you liked a boy and you have an M2M song dedicated to him. )

I was watching M2M videos earlier and I became really nostalgic. They don’t sound really good but their songs appealed to us when we were younger because these songs speak of teenage girls’ first love encounters – the bliss, the pain, the confusion, the struggle. Though their career’s short-lived, I still love them. They remind me that I was once a teenage girl who’s stupid enough to think that the most painful thing on earth was to be dumped at the age of 15.

I enjoyed visiting memory lane with their songs such as Pretty Boy, Everything You Do, The Day You Went Away, and Mirror, Mirror. Listening to these sends me back to the time when I breathe Westlife, Spice Girls, BSB and other 90′s artists. Gawd. I miss my cassette tapes! And CDs!

On a totally unrelated note, I wish I can go back to the days when the hardest decision ever made is picking a crayon.

IKR.

Most of my old clothes (jeans, skirts) won’t fit me anymore.

Several months ago, one of my guy officemate said “ang laki ng tyan mo”. It broke my heart. Hahaha. And so I was really intent to work out the excess fat. I go to gym regularly, I attend dance classes ( hiphop and belly dancing), I run at least once a week, and also proper *protein* diet. Well, after four months of hard work and discipline, I went from size 27 to 24. :’) Sweet.

After four months.

But now, I’ve been away from gym and diet since last week and it I will be until next week. With all the food trips going on here and there, I wonder how much work I will put again to maintain being fit. Meh.

Well. I hope you find this inspiring in any way if you are trying to lose weight. Promise, workout + proper diet + discipline works.

You know you’re depressed when you need a plan just to walk across the room. I can’t even get up my bed.

And so I spent all day inside my room – sleeping, munching on cereals, answering *work-related, meh* emails, sleeping, and then more sleeping. But at least I did one productive thing today. I tried cross-processing in Photoshop. Haha

I am never a Photoshop genius. I rely on Photoshop actions, mostly, when editing my pictures before I post them here. Or sometimes I would just use Lightroom to clean up photos.

But today I read a tutorial from the Creative Dork. Finally, Robbie shared how he post-process his photos. I have been wanting to ask him but I kept on forgetting about it and the post came first haha.

Anyway, here’s my attempt in following Rob’s tutorial. The photos I used below were taken by my Nyok friend Winston (Batang Yagit) during our photoshoot in Intramuros last week:

Review: Garnier Skin Naturals Light Moisturizing Cream SPF 15

And this I must admit, I am very conservative when it comes to facial products i.e. moisturizers, exfoliant, skin whitening products etc. I don’t like experimenting with my face because of the obvious reason, I don’t want to screw it up Hahaha. So I would be content in using natural ingredients to take care of my face like brown sugar for facial scrub, egg whites and yogurt for facial masks etc, until recently I bought this pot of powdered clay and a jar of moisturizer.

During my Sagada trip last year with random couch surfers, I met three pretty young ladies. I promise I never had a clue they’re already in their 30′s. And I asked one of them, “So what’s the secret?” She said, “moisturizer my dear.”

Garnier Skin Natural Light SPF 15

Really. And so I grabbed a jar of moisturizer myself. LOL It took me a while to figure out which one to use. I used Pond’s cream before but I don’t think I like it that much. After deep contemplation haha I decided to try Garnier moisturizer.

And. I know I made the right choice. It’s perfect for my skin, I didn’t get any irritation on my first use (my face a little sensitive). I can go out with just this moisturizer on and a little stain on the cheeks and lips. It’s not greasy or shiny, and it smells nice.

A jar of Garnier moisturizer for three months. Sulit.

It only cost me Php199 to moisturize my face for three months, I already emptied my first jar. Also, I can attest that it can really minimize blemishes and skin pigmentation (pekas). I have irritating blemishes caused by the pimples I popped and a moderate skin pigmentation (I probably got it from my mestiza mom and/or from prolonged exposure to computers).

I’m not sure though if this has made my skin two tones lighter after a month of use because I’ve been going to beaches and I never stopped getting a tan. And I’m not trying to get lighter anyway haha

So yeah, I recommend this product to my dear girl friends because it’s very light and it gets the job done.

Pinkurinal’s Project 52 Looks

And this year I will have my own take on having a year-long project. I thought a 52-weeks project is more achievable than a 365-days one. So here’s what I have in mind: I’m gonna have something like a lookbook project. I actually find it a little narcissistic but I think it’s okay. Hahaha

I’d like to think that somehow, there are girls out there who are inspired and have been influenced by my own statement. And while I may not be a fashionista, I still like to share whatever it is that compose my style.

Let's dress up and shoot!

When I was younger, I am more of the shirt-and-pants type of girl and being kikay’s very far from my personality. I don’t wear skirts except when going to church services. Well, you know what they say about how the wind changes, eh? Five years ago, I wouldn’t have imagined that someday I will get addicted to makeup and stuff like that, and I will finally dress myself stylishly and wear four-inches heels. Now, let’s see what I can come up with in this project. There’s lot of styles I would really really love to try and I hope I can pull it off. Am excited much!

Anyhoo, I hope I can keep up with this project and I hope you guys will support me. :’) And I hope my dear friends who are into photography would team up with me for a shoot. :’) *shout out to Winston, Josh, Ada, Mabel and all of you dear friends who enjoy photoshoot hahaha
