Who doesn’t love Oreo?

I was feeling a little down when I woke up yesterday. But my mood instantly shifted from gloomy to happies when I ate two Oreo cookies ( an officemate was sharing his Strawberry-filled Oreos to everyone! ). That’s how magical Oreo can be.

So here’s some facts about Oreo ( these would probably be useless but I’ll post it anyway hahaha ):

There are different theories as to where the name Oreo came from. Some says it was originally from a Greek word orexin meaning appetizing, oros meaning mountain ( as the original oreo cookies were mound shape ) or oreo (o-ra-yo) meaning good.

But what’s sure is that Oreo was first called Oreo Biscuit. Then the name was changed to Oreo Sandwich ( 1921 ), then to Oreo Creme Sandwich ( 1948 ) and Oreo Chocolate Sandwich Cookie ( 19 74 ). Well, that is if you trust Wikipedia Hahaha

The 345 Billion oreo cookies could fill up the world’s largest freight trains ( consisting of 660 freight cars ) 45 times, could reach the moon and back ( five times! ) if you stack them up, and could circumnavigated the world 381 times at the equator.

There are twelve flowers on the cookie’s floral design, on each side. And yes, I actually look at it and counted.

Oreo is made of awesome. And magic.

And because we just can’t get enough of oreo cookies, we have oreo pizza, oreo ice cream, oreo milkshake and more more more oreo stuff!!

Some months ago since I started being obsessed with getting fit, I have also been obsessing with the food that I eat. If only I can punish myself for not complying with my meal plan..

And this is just an example of how I should not be on a diet in the first place hahaha This burger screams “EAT ME, I’m so damn good!”. And well yes, IT IS. I still want to try their burrito and quesadillas, maybe next time.

Army Navy quarter-pound pure beef patty burger with lettuce, onions and cheese. My bestfriend would die for the triple-patty burger, for sure.

Burgers from Army Navy is sooooo filling for only Php135. I’m really hard to please when it comes to bread and bun and stuff like that but I really love their sesame kaiser bun, so soft and tasty! Also, the patty is pure beef! It’s so sinful!

This is not a healthy midnight lunch should look like – but but it’s almost close to healthy haha I tried! But yeah, this one is at least pretty good for the hungry appetite. Screw calorie content, or fat content or cholesterol content. A burger once in a while is not harmful, yes? YES.

Next time when I visit Army Navy Burger and Burrito, I will make sure that I bring my camera. I’ve been to the Alabang branch twice already and I didn’t have my camera with me on both occasions. Meh. Next time. You’ll love the theme of this burger joint. It’s like you’re visiting a navy’s pantry. Hahaha

Boston Cafe is brewing in UP Los Banos

If you’re craving for coffee and you want an impromptu road trip, I suggest you head to UP Los Banos and hangout at Boston Cafe. That’s exactly what I did three days ago. I was at first craving for Starbucks in Tagaytay but I ended up going to LB instead.

So here’s what I had in Boston Cafe, UPLB:

ElBiCCino. I love the coffee jelly!

I love that they used ice cream instead of whipped cream. It didn’t come out very sweet because the coffee’s very dark it actually compliments the ice cream on top.

Too many options to choose from. And this menu totally look like Starbucks'.

It took me some time to choose what coffee to buy because they practically have everything! From espresso to ice blended frappes! They also have meals on their menu. Also, their coffee and meals are very affordable; the pricing is less expensive than that of popular coffee shops here in Manila.

Nice smoking area. I'm not a smoker but I sat here.

The place is really a good “tambayan” for students; it’s cozy, have wifi all over the place, have wall for org postings, and OPEN until the weee hours of the morning. So if you find yourself near UPLB next time and you want some real good dark roasted coffee, go grab a cup from Boston Cafe.

Pink Salmon in Apple and Mini Bagel

Today I marinated pink salmon steak and salmon belly in lime, dried oregano leaves, salt and cracked pepper. Then I steamed the proteins for about 5-10minutes before I pan-seared it in cholesterol-free butter.

I topped the salmon belly over a mini bagel and thin slice of green apple.

I also prepared a “sauce” for the salmon steak by melting butter and adding lime to it. I also added dried oregano leaves to be consistent with the flavor.

The taste of salmon and apple is like fireworks in the mouth.

I love how the sweetness of green apple compliments the taste of lime in the fish. The crispy mini bagel added texture and contrast with the salmon which is very soft. Everything just came together and it works. I am very proud of this dish considering that I just thought about it on the fly when I was buying some stuff in the grocery.

I shared the dish with three of my officemates and they all liked it :’)

I want to spend more time (and more money, meh) cooking dishes like this. I want to learn more and be a very cool chef in the future haha. Cooking gives me a new perspective and a medium to be creative. Hmm this makes me want to have a food/recipe/cooking blog.

Grilled Chicken Bruschetta

Undoubtedly, chicken is my favorite protein. Most of us Filipino like chicken – chicken adobo, pininyahang manok, roast chicken, chicken curry – the list goes on and on.

For me, I have one very simple dish that I would always cook for myself if I have cravings. It’s called Grilled Chicken Bruschetta.

A bruschetta dish should basically have basil, tomatoes and cheese. It is usually put on top of french bread as an appetizer dish.

Today I will share to you how to cook chicken breast bruschetta.

Let’s start! :’)

So what you will need are:

Boneless chicken breasts (as many as you want)
Tomatoes and tomato juice
Quick-melt cheese
Basil leaves (dried)
Pepper, salt or just anything you want to add for flavor

What you need to do is really easy:

chicken breasts marinated in tomato juice and pepper

Marinate the chicken breasts in tomato juice and pepper, and set it aside for a good 15-20minutes.
While waiting for the chicken, prepare slices of tomatoes and grill them. Chopped it in small pieces and set aside.
Then in a grilling pan covered with aluminum foil, lay your breasts in neat rows. Yes I mean chicken breasts. Grill the chicken until cooked. For presentation’s purpose, be consistent with the grill lines on the meat. :’)
Top it with the chopped tomatoes you grilled earlier. Put basil leaves. You can add salt if you want. And then shred quickmelt cheese all over it.
Now just wait for a minute more for the cheese to melt and viola! Your grilled chicken bruschetta is ready!

This doesn't look really yum but I swear it is. I just don't have a very nice shot.

If you don’t have time for grilling, you can also pan-seared the chicken breast and have a pan-seared chicken bruschetta instead, like this one:

Pan-seared chicken bruschetta

The difference between pan-frying and pan-searing is that when you fry your food, you need oil or fat to cook it in a pan or a skillet while pan-searing would only need a dry pan, preferrable non-stick pan. In searing, you lock in more flavor as the juice of the meat creates a crust on the outer layer.

Yay! And so I joined the bandwagon of running! Last Saturday I ran my first 5km in Pinay In Action 2010. It’s an all-women-run held annually for five years now to celebrate women’s month. Proceeds of the event will support advocacies against Breast and Cervical Cancer, and Violence Against Women and Children. Refer to the poster above for more details =)

I went to the event with my friend Kaye, she picked me up on my place around 4:30am and we headed straight to SM Mall of Asia. We were quite early so we took our time to prepare for the run — Kaye was stretching and stuff like that, I was just sitting there like a bum haha

I still can't believe I was able to finish 5km AND in 40minutes. Woooot.

Also, I’ve noticed that most winners of the 5km and 10km are young girls. Kewl. =)

After the 5k run in the morning, I went to the gym and I had a full workout. That sounds overkill, I know. But my fitness instructor said I’m gaining weight I should not gain =| So he made me a new program I have to follow religiously. And yeah, I have to refrain from eating sweets from now on. =| Amf unwanted fats.
